Clinical Medical Assistant with Phlebotomy Program

Are you ready to take the first step toward a fulfilling career in healthcare? Blake Austin College’s Clinical Medical Assistant with Phlebotomy (CMAP) Program provides the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience to help you succeed as a medical assistant or certified phlebotomy technician.

Credits: 38 Semester Credits | Total Hours: 920 Hours

What You’ll Learn

Our CMAP program prepares you for entry-level clinical positions in both medical assisting and phlebotomy. You’ll train to:

  • Take and record vital signs and patient histories
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist during procedures
  • Perform venipuncture using vacuum tubes, syringes, and butterfly needles
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by physicians
  • Use medical equipment such as electrocardiographs, microscopes, and autoclaves
  • Adhere to OSHA safety standards, infection control practices, and quality assurance protocols

You’ll also become CPR-certified through the American Heart Association.

Certification & Licensure Preparation

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to:

  • Apply for licensure as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician 1 (CPT1) through the California Department of Public Health
  • Sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) agency

Real-World Training & Externship

You’ll gain over 200 hours of externship experience, split between phlebotomy and clinical medical assisting placements. These real-world settings give you practical experience, build confidence, and prepare you to thrive in medical environments.
